Roscommon County Childcare Committee are working on their Spring 2012 training calendar and are
currently in the process of selecting trainers and courses for 2012. As a childcare service provider, if there are any particular courses that you are interested in, please contact us to advise us and we will endeavour to meet demand, where possible. To book a place on an upcoming training course, download our booking form and complete the instructions from the bottom of the Training Schedule. Please return the form with the appropriate fee for the course you have chosen. Places cannot be reserved without the fee.
As always, venues for training are dependent on suiting the majority of training participants on each course.
The VEC have released their programme of training courses for Spring 2012 and these will be printed in the newspapers in the week of 13th January. Please click on the links below to access a copy of the VEC spring training schedule for Childcare and Back to Education training courses. Please contact the VEC directly on the numbers listed, regarding any of the courses on the VEC Schedule.

“You may also be aware that FETAC published common awards standards in Early Childhood Care and Education at Levels 4, 5 and 6 on the NFQ. The Common Award Standard in ECCE at Level 4 is identified by its code of 4M2014 (where M stand for Major); at Level 5 by its code of 5M2009 and at Level 6 by its code of 6M2007.
The old awards in Childcare are being phased out. After December 2012, only programmes of learning that have been validated against the new Common Awards Standards in ECCE will be accredited by FETAC. However, learners have until December 2014 to carry forward existing minor (component) awards as exemptions towards new common major and special purpose awards, where appropriate. Claiming an exemption is a procedure carried out at centre level when a training provider enters a candidate for certification. More information on this process is available on http://www.fetac.ie
From January 2015 only component awards developed in line with the new Common Award Standards in ECCE will be accepted towards the achievement of Major or Special Purpose Awards in ECCE. Learners will not be able
to use component (minor) awards made under the old award standards towards these major or special purpose awards after that date.
FETAC have asked education and training providers to migrate to the Common Awards Standards as soon as possible. For ECCE Awards in 2012, the sector should start to see education and training providers offering courses with the identifying codes of 4M2014, 5M2009 OR 6M2007. Any prospective learner should be aware of the currency of courses being offered under the old Award system.”

The National Childcare Strategy 2006-2010 identified the need to develop the skills and qualifications profile of the workforce in the Early Childcare and Education (ECCE) sector. Work on the development of a Workforce Development Plan began with an extensive programme of research and consultation. June 2009 saw the publication of a Background Paper on Developing the Workforce in the ECCE sector which brought together datasets from a wide variety of sources on the profile and qualifications of the current ECCE workforce. This document formed the basis for a consultative process which was launched on 12th June 2009 and concluded on 30th September 2009.
Access the background paper and a report on the findings from the consultative process here. The Plan itself is now being developed.
Further information on the Workforce Development Plan can be accessed on The OMCYA Website.
FETAC is working, within its remit, to find solutions for learners who have been affected by these developments. FETAC will continue to provide recognition for learning, through quality assured awards on the National Framework of Qualifications. Our priority is to ensure that all learners receive the certification they are due and that the Protection for Learners arrangements operate successfully. FETAC has updated answers to learners' frequently asked questions on 21st October 2010. FETAC will update their website as further information becomes available. FETAC published a notice of suspension for Empower Learning Limited on 7th October 2010. View Suspension Notice
