Setting Up and Running a Pre-School Service

If you would like to begin a new career, start up a new business or set up a community group, the first thing you should do is read through the Child Care (Pre-School Services) Regulations 2006 for pre-school provision.

We would advise everyone who is thinking about pursuing a career in childcare to undertake training.  For those thinking about setting up a childcare service it is important to note that the Preschool Regulations outline the following recommendation:

In centre-based services, it is considered that the person in charge should aim to have at least fifty percent of childcare staff with a qualification appropriate to the care and development of children. The qualified staff should rotate between age groupings.

There are a wide range of childcare courses and training available for those who are seriously thinking about entering a career in childcare. These include short-term training courses, certificate, diploma and degree courses as well as postgraduate education.

Publicity Guidelines (July 2011) for Community Based Groups & Private Providers

Following clarification from Dept. of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA), please note, groups who received/receive NCIP Staffing, CCSS, CCS, CETS and/or ECCE funding (and who did not receive NCIP capital funding), do not need to adhere to any publicity requirements.

However, groups approved NCIP capital funding still need to adhere to the Publicity Guidelines
